NET-SNMP and GNU C Compiler

Hi, I was wondering why you need to download and use the GNU C Compiler to install Net-SNMP? When I try to install Net-SNMP without it, it doesn't work. Why is this dependent on the GCC Compiler?

Hi,

for Solaris you will have to license the Solaris C-compiler additionally, so if you did not buy a license your Solaris will be delivered without it.

So one would expect that for compiling a C program you need at least 1 C-compiler, isn't it.

GNU-C is free of charge concerning the license agreement and thus this is the best choice then.

Another possibility is to use precompiled packages, then you do not need a C-compiler for installing.
