Ok so I really have two questions to pose for the crowd. I waqs at school and using net send to message people, i do not abuse it, but some do I was sending a message when it came up with the error Allis not found, well i knew this person was on, he was sitting right nest to me, so i imediatly checked the net start to see if messenger was running, it was. i finally check the names given to My computer, and there were non, the administrator had taken them all off! How can i add a username that will be on computers when i log onto them? secound question has already been asked, but their was know answer. how can i program it to send it to a program or something. What is the actual protocal going on here? Any suggestions?

Well, since the person is sitting right next to you I suggest you turn around and talk to him, its much quicker

If you use: NET SEND <ip> <message>

that should work, as long as you know the IP

I wont know IP addresses becuase i would have to memorize every single one the the ip addresses at school. no one has there &quot;own&quot; computer on the network here, it is just semipublic access to the computers in places such as the library, the pub (publications), and computer class. Computer class would be the only class in which getting ip info would be useful.

The PCs probably don't have NetBEUI installed on them, only TCPIP. No PC name is required for TCPIP, and there really isn't a reason to do so, at least from the point of view of the admins.

I think the bit with usernames uses netbios for the protocol, this is a swag though.

They had netBEU installed in the past. I used this feaure before.
