Glister, please correct me if I've heard some BS, but I've heard through the grapevine that CompTIA is thinking of going the route of CEP (Continuing Education Program). This could very well be false, as it came from another forum, in which someone was defending EC-Council for attempting to go that route.
Personally, I'm not sure which direction would be best. I do think that education is a never ending thing, but on that same note, I don't know if requiring CEPs, or a retest is the way to go.
The trick with CompTIA certs is that they are entry level certs, for the most part. They are meant to serve the tech in the beginning of their career. The next phase should be vendor specific certs such as Cisco or Microsoft.
My outlook on CompTIA certs are just like glister said, entry level certs... but that doesnt mean they should be over looked either. Most employers will look at them as showing you have a good understanding of the field in question.
