I downloaded the .NET redistributable and the .NET SDK. I would like to compile a C++ program at the command line. How is this done?

This works even w/o Visual Studio installed? Is there a particular path I need to point to?

I've never used .NET, but I'm pretty sure what you are referring to is just the software needed to be able to run programs that were built with .NET. Kind of like how you need to install the Java JRE before you can run any Java programs. Microsoft doesn't give away free compilers. ;)

The C# compiler is included in the .NET Framework redistributable/SDK. I was hoping the C++ compiler was too. :(

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can get the C++ .NET compiler for free, just not the IDE. Sorry I can't tell you how to use it. Try I saw some people talking about it there a while back who knew how to get it working.
