This is less of a technical question than a practical one.
I am about to start learning Active X programming with C++ and Direct X programming. Do you think that it will be a waste of time and that the entire architecture will change because of .NET? Is Active X a dying architecture?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

ActiveX is still valid at this point. The .NET architecture will start taking off shortly.
DirectX implies you are trying to write graphical applications or games.

I think all of it is still worthwhile at this point. The problem is that .NET is still in its infancy, but I believe it will take off shortly, so where does that leave you?

Answer: It depends a lot upon where you are working and how seriously they take .net and/or the activex/COM environment. Many shops use Java also.
