Neophyte Javascript question.

I'm starting out with JS, but have used DW in the past.
Now, I'm using rollover buttons with a link of " JavaScript:window.open 'abc.html','xyz','width=xxx,height=yyy')"

The popups open just fine, but the parent page goes blank, except for "[object]" in the upper, right-hand corner.

Not sure if a question for DW or JS.
