Negotiating IP Security?

Hi

Whenever I ping any computer -either locally on our network, or even I get a "Negotiating IP Security" response. If I ping a second time, it either gives the same message, request timeout (even though I have visual confirmation the computer is live), or I finally get the response.

I have been assured this is not related to our sonic firewall. This started recently. Any idea what could have caused this? (most of the machines here are XP Pro SP2 on an NT4 domain).

It sounds like an Ip Sec policy. Is this isolated to one machine?

Windows XP built in firewall, this is installed with SP2.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!
 
It seems to be only my machine. Other computers have no problem pinging.

I had SP2 installed for quite some time without having this problem. I think it might have something to do with Sunbelt Software's LANHOUND network monitoring software.
 
That's definitely IPSEC. That's the message it gives when that's been implemented. It will look for a response, usually a preconfigured "message" or "password" of sorts and if it doesn't get that back it gets confused. It's been far too long since I went through that part of my school for me to remember the specifics on how to implement it or take it away though. Try to google it and see if you can find anything on it, that would be my best suggestion.
 
Security camera monitoring software installed an IPSec plugin that was causing the errors. I uninstalled the software and all is well.
