Hello,

I was given a Extreme Networks Summit 24 switch from a customer and I need to reset it to factory defaults since no-one knows the username and password to get into it. The problem that I am having is, when I try to do a serial connection it doesn't do anything. It has been soooo long since I have even used a serial connection, that I may be doing it wrong. I am using Windows Xp com 1 setting the com to baud 9600, data 8, stop 1, parity none, flow xon/xoff. when I connect, it just sits there but it does say it is connected. Now, I know that the switch come out of a major factory "Eastman Chemical Company". I also know that their security on all of their systems are very locked down. I have tried doing telnet to it and it comes up with the login, but still no username or password that I have tried works.

There may be a hard-reset button on that model. Small pin-hole opening.
The default username is "admin" with no password, try that first.

I have tried it. Holding it for 30 seconds, and still nothing. Is there a different timing or proceedure on the reset button?
