If you are an expert on the in and outs of PM, can you tell me what is the recommended maximum document size for a PM file? Some insist that every section of a document should be a separate file, even if the whole document is only 40 - 60 pages.

What are the real benefits of separating the document and/or what are the real consequences of not doing so? Printing problems? Pagination? Seems like it would be a heck of a lot easier to just stay in one document.

Thanks,

This thread over on the Adobe User-to-User Pagemaker (Windows) forum has some great suggestions on working with large documents in PM. I suggest you read it through.

Hi, ebcs,

The real problem is the human one of keeping track of it all. The maximum size of a PM file is 999 pages, and the limits of the number that can be "booked" is probably determined by your PC's resources.

However, huge files increase the risk of corruption, so saving often and minimising the number of text blocks and fonts use is recommended.

Make sure you identify your "Compose to" printer right at the start. Changing the printer will cause te text to re-compose and may leave you with a big task of re-adjustment.

These and other tips can be found at "Recommended Workflow for Creating PageMaker Publications" Follow what is said there and you won't go far wrong.
