Hi all,
I'm running out of DIDs, so I decided to reach out to our provider to see if I could order another block. I was hoping to get the block following the one we already have, but no luck there. Numbers in the same exchange were not even available. Now I need to add new DIDs, but my new block is going to have a different prefix.

I'm not sure how this works in the BCM or if I'm using the right lingo, so here's what I mean.

Old block prefix - (123)675-xxxx
New block prefix - (123)613-xxxx

Can the BCM use both blocks? How would I be configuring this? Any info would be great!

Thanks again!

If there are any last 4 digits that match suchs as:
675-2222 and 613-2222 then you must have the Telco and BCM set to recieve 7 digits.
Configuration is the same besides that.

So if there isn't any matching numbers, the BCM doesn't care about the first 6?

Usualy it is 4 digit recived that is what curleycord was talking about and if you are using 4 digit make sure there is no over lap of numbers if ther is then you can try 5 - 6 - 7 digits till there is no match and yes you can make recived with 6 with different numbers behind it.

Alright, I'll double check the new block against the old to make sure there are no overlapping numbers. If there are, I'll probably stick to just receiving 4 digits and request another block.

Just trying to understand...the BCM doesn't care about the area code and local exchange digits...it is just looking at what the telco is sending to it (4 digits). If I had overlapping digits from the telco, then I would configure the BCM to accept 5,6, or 7 digits if necassary.

For my records, where in the Element Manager would I make this change?

Thanks for your help!

...or so I thought hahah.

I was looking in Element Manager and saw my list of all DNs (Sets\All DNs).

In that list right now, my existing block of DNs is in there, along with some additional ones. The existing block goes from 6563 to 6725 or something like that, these numbers are in there along with the range of The additional ones range from 6726 to 6800.

The new block of DIDs the phone company wants to give me range from 6250-6269.

How do I get 6250-6269 in my all DN list?

You have to program each Target Line with the new DID.
So if you go into the next available Target Line then program the recieved digits as 6250, assign Prime Set to a set (if needed now), change the name of the Target Line to 6250.

Thanks curlycord,

I went under Target Lines, found my next available one(350) and made these changes to it:

Parameters Tab
Name: 6250
Line Type: Public
Pub. Received #: 6250
Priv. Received #: 6250
Distint Ring: None

Preferences Tab - Everything left default

Assigned DNs - Currently left to default. I tried adding a DN...6250 and got this message "Error happened. Error Detail: 6250 is not a valid DN." So right now, this tab is blank.

I went back into Sets\All DNs as well as Sets\Inactive DNs and didn't see 6250. Am I doing something wrong?

You cannot assign a DN to a target Line if it does not exist.
DN is Directory Number or Ext number.
If you are assigning a Target Line to somebody then get their DN of their phone by doing F*0 INTERCOM
Your other option is to change their DN to 6250 if you must match DN to DID.

If you want the internal DN to match the DDI number then you need to renumber the DN.
Go to DIALING PLAN-CHANGE DN
a box will appear
Enter the old DN you want to change 6726
then Enter the New DN.6750
Do this for each extn you want to change.
yes one at a time.

I dont Know if the new renumber facility is working on the bcm50 rel3 yet but it does on the bcm450

Thanks snowman,

I wasn't sure how to create a DN that didn't exist.

Under Dialing Plan\DN, I have DNs From 6560 to 7080 in there. Some are of the type "Set" while others include "Application" and "Hunt Group."

I guess I don't understand why there are so many DNs already in that list that I don't use...why were they created to begin with?

So I guess my plan now is to order that new block of DIDs, get my range of 4 digits, change some DNs that I know are not in use to match my DIDs under the Dialing Plan\DN, and then I can assign that matching DID and DN to a set?
