need W2K driver for USR 56K EXT modem

I'm trying to get a U.S. Robotics 56K external faxmodem (005686-03) to work with Windows 2000 Pro.

has a driver for Win2k, but it will not function properly with Windows 2000. Does anyone know how to get this device to work?

Install it as a Generic 56K fax/modem and it should work fine. The OS is very picky about an internal (especially the WinModems) modems, but doesn't care much about the externals.

You will not get a USR specific Init string, nor will you get the wave device if the modem had voice capability, but everything else should work fine.
