I have two offices connected though an IPSEC tunnel. Both offices have full t-1's to the internet. I have Snapgear routers at both locations.
The users in the remote office complain that outlook goes into "disconnected from exchange server" state a lot. I have seen drive mappings and other issues (site my synctoy post).
I recently studied this a little by pinging through the VPN tunnel. I setup a constant ping and sent it to a logfile.
Most of the time, my ping came back in 14ms. Other random times it would come back after 120+ ms. On occasion, I would get request timed out. I would say it was rare but over a two hour interval, I saw about 20 or so timed out messages. In one occasion, I saw multiple request timed out messages sequentially.
What should my next steps be to troubleshoot if I have line problems or IPSEC tunnel problems.
