Hey guys - I'm looking for an alternative to the Partner Mail VS voicemail solutions.

My customer wants to have his automated attendant (night greeting) just HANG UP on the user, after giving the message. I know I do this on a Merlin Mail all the time, but not even Partner Mail VS R5 will just hang up.

I'm sure a Partner Mail R3 would do it, but I can't find anyone to sell me one for a reasonable price (I feel $700 tops is reasonable).

Does anyone know anything about "Amigo", or any other VM products that might play nice with Partner ACS, and have this rather unusual but necessary feature?

Thanks!

- Joel

It's an option in Partner Messaging R1 and R6. It's there in Partner Mail R3. You would need to disable all the selector codes and set the Dial 0/Timeout option to disconnect.

Now, what will do what you are asking for cheaply are a couple of things. In both senarios you will still use something like a VS mail for mailboxes.

Use an answer only answering machine connected to a station port. Give it no ring in the day mode, and put it in the night service group, put a NS button on Ext. 10. Don't use the Auto Attendant at all in the Night Mode.

Use an ASA/DXD card, and use the ASA feature, setting the ASA mode to disconnect. You only get 15 seconds or so for the outgoing message. The caller can't dial anything to go anywhere. You need an ASA button on Ext. 10, and if the Auto Attendant is on delayed answer in the day mode for backup, you also need a Night Service button. The customer need to turn them BOTH on and off at the same time.

Well.. The answering machine idea isn't really an option for me, I had considered it briefly though. Call me stubborn, but I really hate plugging an analog answering device (with terrible audio quality) into the phone system. What are people going to hear when they call in at night? AWFUL!

The ASA/DXD would be fabulous - except for the 15 second OGM time limit. They want to have a full "we are close, our office hours are..." style greeting.

Partner Messaging R1 .. you say? This is the new one, that requires a license card as well as the circuit pack, correct?

What about a Partner Voice Messaging R3, the little PCMCIA guy. That appears to have an "answer only mode". Can you confirm that can be made to be useful.

I'm off to check Avaya documentation. Thanks for the help! :)

You could use the Partner Voice Messaging PC Card mail, and instead of using the Auto Attendant, you would use "Call Cover" to make a mailbox "own" the lines. Then you would set the mailbox to "Answer" mode instead of Record mode. Now the only problem is getting it to answer only at night, and I think you could do this by putting a VMS Cover button on the phone as well. When VMS Cover is off, it shouldn't cover the lines, and when it is on, it should. Set the VMS Cover Rings and the Call Cover Rings for that extension to 1 and it would pick up after 1 ring when it is on. Or also add a DND button and engage that as well as the VMS Cover to make it answer immediatly.
