Hello,

I need to do some work on a site that has hundreds of pages, many of which have corrupt or broken HTML. Is there a utility that can scan a site and spit out a report saying all the broken code it found, or at least the pages that have corrupt HTML. This will help me estimate the project better since I have to fix that code before I can start the actual work.

Thank you very much

Well I've seen the code in some of these pages and really don't know how the heck IE renders them. they are missing closing tags, have multiple <body> tags. This is the result from multiple people editing this site in notepad, and just cutting and pasting without noticing what they are doing.

So what I'm looking for is any kind of broken code

Hi

Is abit old, but HTML Tidy can clean up some type of markup errors in invalid documents. If you have many pages and want a quick approximative fix, you may run it from the command line in a loop for all HTML files.

The Html Validator extension for FireFox was recently updated and is also able to clean up the markup.

Feherke.

Most of these that have been suggested here are hosted utilities, where I need to input the URL, and the problem with that is that the site I want to validate is internal. It's not open to the public. I need some kind of stand alone utility that crawls the site locally and spits out a report.

Anything?

The page I recommended also allows you to directly paste the HTML code into a textbox and validates it that way. All my code is in an intranet, so I can't paste URLs directly in either.

If the code is as bad as you make it out to be, it's probably best to do one page at a time anyway.
