Hello,

Could someone please help me. Using crystal reports 9.2.3.970. CR Developer Full. I have created a report and placed on our intranet. When the user runs the report, the report comes back with the first page being a grey screen. However, if the user clicks the arrow key to advance to the next page, then the report kicks in and the user can see data. Basically, it's like the report tries to run but needs a kick start after it finishes loading. Any ideas why. We have a reporting portal and have publish numerous reports on the intranet. This is the only report that does this. Using asp as front end code. Could someone please help me asap. Alos, note that this report has numerous subreports. Thanks guys.

Hi,

It sounds like you have a group inyour report, with a 'New Page Before' Option in the section.

Right click on the Top level group, select SECTION, then make sure 'New Page Before' or 'New Page After' is de-selected.

Hi RJDuke,

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually I wish that was the case, but for the most part, correct me if I'm wrong, if I put a New Page Before, I should see a white screen(or page) not a grey one. Regardless, I did double check if that was the case and it is not. I am currenly disecting the report and starting again to rebuild it piece by piece. Thanks again for the reply.

I have seen this happen when the "Keep Group Together" option is selected for one of the groups...probably the first group.

Of course, that also produces a white screen with the report header info...yours is just showing a grey screen with no data, correct?

Yes that is correct stinsman,

Thanks for the response. I am looking at all the subreports now. I was thinking it may be the keep group together. But I guess we shall see. For now I have narrowed it down to the last 3 subreports. They are grand total subreports. Once I remove the 3 subs, the report work fine(without the grey screen). Se what I also noticed is the page count when running the report on the web shows 0 of 0. When I remove the subs it show 1 of 3. So I will add each individual sub back to the report and test. Thanks again guys. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know.

how many subreports does the report contain ?

I haven't seen this specific problem but I have seen instances of reports with many sub reports behaving strangely.

I have 1 report that contains 6 subreports, whenever I add a 7th subreport it causes calculations and subreports to run incorrectly.

I know this amy not help you with your problem, but there may be some limit to number of SR's or number of fields etc..

Hi GJParker,

Thanks for the reponse. My report contains 15 subs but none of them are linked. Most of them are using there own stored procedure.

Out of interest, try taking the page numbering off your report, and see if it speeds up. The "n of n" page numbering style can slow the report down greatly. Basically CE has to get every page from the File Repository Server, load it into the Page Server and then into the Cache Server, the first page is then delivered to the Web Browser. If you do not have page numbering, or simply just "page n", each page is only loaded when it is requested by the user.

This may not fix your troubles, but its certainly worth remembering anyway.

Hi mrees,

I do not have page numbering. Yes I do realize that this definitely slows things down. That's why I rarely use it. But that you for the reply.
