need transparent background

I am importing text and edited images into dreamweaver from photoshop.What is the best way to make the background of the text transparent if it doesn't match the background on your web? I tried the transparent button in image ready and in ps when I opened a new pallet but nothing seems to work.

Use the save for web option in the file menu. If your .psd has a transparent backround, select gif 128 dithered from the pull down menu.

Alternatively, if you don't want to save it as transparent, you can copy the background layer, delete the original background, select the areas you want transparent with the magic wand tool and delete.

Hey presto, a transparent background.
