At about 1:30 everyday, I get a lot of complaints about the speed of the network and e-mail. It all comes to a grinding halt for about 1.5 hours and I am not sure why. I'm sure there is some software that I can purchase, to track and see who is doing what when. But does server 2000 have anything already built into it that is able to do this? We do have a firewall, Cisco PIX 506E, but I'm not sure how to config that either.

thanks!

If it is at the same time every day then it could well not be a user causing the delay.

Do you have anything such as backup's running at this time? This would take up server resources and network speed if using remote agents. Other causes could be network anti virus software, anti spam etc.

How many servers/clients do you have? You could log on to the server in question and take a look in task manager to see if there are any processes taking up alot of memory/processor time. Also check that the C drive isn't too full on the server.

There are free software packages available for network analysis - you could try using Ethereal, but depending on your familiararity with such products will depend how useful it is to you.

Do some Performance Monitoring on your servers.
Check for CPU counters and Network counters.
Then try to find the one who causes all the trouble.
