My son switched me over from WindowsXP to linux/Unix OS. I cannot find any server/manager/drivers to get me going with using my printer. My desktop has a KDE logo on it.

When I try to setup to add my printer, it doesn't list HP printers and I keep getting this message:

"Unable to retrieve the printer list. Error message received from manager:
Connection to CUPS server failed. Check that the CUPS server is correctly installed and running. Error: connection refused."

If anyone can help me - since my son, the computer wiz-kid, never has time to help me out with this, please explain in very simple, NEWBIE terms to get me on the right track.

Thanks... I appreciate any help.

I can't help with your linux problem but I do have a suggestion. Have your computer "wiz" put Windows XP back onto your computer. Linux is probably not the best OS for a newbie. Then get your "wiz" a cheap used computer to experiment with linux on. You'll save yourself months/years of frustration of on-going problems.
btw, a computer wizard does not leave an end user in a situation like you're in.

Sorry this is off track but had to pass along advice from experience. I'm glad my "wiz" has now gone off to college with his own computer.

i would ask this in the linux/unix forums....you will probably get a much better response
