I need to remove Samba from a server and have commented out samba lines in services and inetd.conf, restarted and still loads upon startup. Any ideas? Thanks as always.

Have you checked the rc2.d, rc3.d etc to make sure it is not being started somewhere else?

Yes there is a file called S99samba in the rc2.d directory. What do I do, delete it?

you can even rename it :
for example mv S99samba X99samba
both in rc2.d and rc3.d

Thank you that worked. Learn something new every day!
