i recently installed win xp pro on a disk that already had a few folders and files on it. the contents of the folders were fine, but the few files i had outside of folders dissapeared. these were very crucial files...

now there is a folder on the drive named something like 'FOUND.000' which contains files named 'Found0000.chk' through 'Found0015.chk' and are described as "recovered file fragments". how do i reassemble these fragments and get the original files back? any help is appreciated.

'Found0000.chk' files are pretty useless outputs from chdsk utility. There is one program that I can nearly always recover files that had formats done - Easy Recovery Pro 6. I use the windows program to make a boot recovery floppy that has GUI/mouse interface and reads NTFS, FAT16, FAT32, RAW, et. all. I believe I've seen it for download at that reckless, pirating threat to capitalism FOSI.. at the bottom of the page somewhere...

A program I use that helps frequently is QuickView Plus [www.jasc.com].
