I need a UPS to cater for the following: -
- DSL Internet Router
- Mid sized HP printer/copier
- D-Link Hub - 12 port
- D-Link Hub - 16 port
- Xerox Printer/fax/copier system

What do I consider or look for when buying a UPS? Wattage? Volts?

Laser printers are very hard to put on reasonable sized UPS, as the fuser periodically draws a BIG burst of power to "clean the corona wire"

How sure are you that you want to print in the dark?
I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

It is not that I want to print in the dark.
The Xerox color printer that I have here goes offline if not properly booted.
For example,
The way the machine works is that when you want to reboot it, you have to first turn the power off and then wait for the lights at the back of the machine to turn off completed (this may take about 15-30 secs). Then you wait an additional 30 seconds and then turn the machine back on. If you do not follow this procedure, then the machine will never come back online.
With that printer on a UPS, it will not go down resulting in stable uptime.

Xerox 1622 15 amps at 120V 1800 watts
HP 4100MF 500 watts
Nortel 1050 2* 1.5 amps at 120V 360 watts
Sohoware router 1 amp at 5 volts 5 watts

your equipment will vary but for this set I would want 3500 VA UPS I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Thanks man.
That is roughly the same amout I estimated.

Keep in mind that if you need over 3000VA you will need 208v/240v in order to power the UPS.

The best solution would be to go with 2 UPS's. One for the Xerox Machine (SmartUPS 3000) and another for the other equipment (SmartUPS 1400).

You could try Ebay (just make sure that they have new batteries/warranty etc) or try searching yahoo under "apc ups"...

Make sure the UPS has a true sinewave output, otherwise it could fry the printer.
