I am looking for a program that I can repartition my C drive becayse it is udsing 46% of the total space and the rest is not being used. Are there any good programs I can use (free) that can do this without data loss?

Thank you!!

Thank you!!!

MrKovacic;

You don't need to repartition.......you can just add another partition to fill out the disk.

I wish you'd given the overall disk size or atleast what 46% of it equals in GB or MB.
and OS=Win98?

You would reboot to a command prompt and type; Fdisk
"Enable large Disk Support"(Yes/No)....hit "Y" for yes, if you have atleast 2GB of free space..
and choose the "Y" to "use maximum available space" when prompted....

Do NOT DELETE "PRIMARY" or delete anything in fdisk for that matter(in your specific sit.)

then choose;
-Create Extended DOS Partition....
-Make newly Extended DOS Partition a "Logical Dos Drive"
-exit fdisk (ESC)
-CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart

You now have a "D:" drive also, and your CD-ROM/CD-RW, CD/DVD just got pushed to "E:"......(if applicable)

-Format D:
-Give D: a volume label if you like or leave it blank.....

Once done formatting you can now use your D: drive, as it'll be that remaining 56% of Disk space...

If you provide more detailed info on setup(OS,CD?,CDRW,DVD) and DISK SIZE......I can adjust my advice in regards to FAT16 or FAT32

You know, some methods of installing Linux use a utility to shrink your Primary DOS partition to make room for another partition in which you stick Linux.

Given that a DOS-type of partition is defined in the Master Boot Record (MBR), and the formatting within that partition is defined in the File Allocation Table (FAT), then alterations to those are simply performed to shrink the partition. It leaves behind abandoned, but formatted space on the hard disk that the next partitioning software simply grabs like nothing was there in the first place.

To expand the partition, all one would need to do is a little more work; you'd make similar alterations to the MBR and FAT, but you'd have to format the space inside the expanded partition (setting up logical sectors) since you can't trust what was on that space before. I've never heard of this being performed, but it should work in principle.

Has anyone heard of a program doing this kind of thing, for any formatting?
