I am running SBS Premium R2 although i do not have SQL 2005 installed yet. I want to install SQL 2k5 on the second partition of the server and remove MSDE so all database needs can run off of SQL. Is this possible?

Also, what are the issues with moving the page file off the C: partition and put on another?

Thank you for any help.

I've never tried doing the SQL task you're asking about, so I can't offer any info.

But as far as the pagefile is concerned, that's fine. You don't see a performance increase though if it's on another partition of the same array. In fact, you lose features doing that. If you're going to move it, move it to another volume/array.

Thanks for the reply.

If i am correct, when you move the page file off of the C: partition, you will not get the memory dump incase of a windows crash. But that is all i can recall.

Thanks again

Personally, I would leave the native SBS MSDE databases(monitoring, etc) based in MSDE and add the SQL for your non-native line-of-business apps. You are likely to run into more trouble migrating those SBS-specific services off of MSDE than you are to gain performance by moving them. Having both MSDE and SQL Standard installed and both operational is a fairly common practice.
