Need to make this but to new to JS to figure out

I am trying to make this type of, I guess, Lightbox, not sure if this is what it is called, to put different articles in but don't want customers to have to load a new page.

There is an example of what I want on this page.

Can someone lead me in the right direction? At least, tell me what it is called. I check the source code and they call it a "newsmenu" and that does not jive with other names of functions.
