I usually work on large Avaya PBX's and am not familiar with the Norstar CICS. My husband owns a Norstart CICS with StarTalk voicemail in his office. He is moving to a new office and has opted to purchase a new system. He is looking to sell his Norstar to the new tenants but they'd like to know how many lines this system supports. I know the system will either support 4 lines and 8 phones or 8 lines and 24 phones. How do I tell what his system supports?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It all depends on the software that is installed. It can be any thing from a 4X8 (4 lines 8 stations) to an 8 x 24 (8 lines 24 Stations) look in the Card Slots to see how many 4 port trunl cards you have. If it has newer software you could put a DTI card in the unit for T-1 service (24 Lines).

I'll have to take a look at the card slots when I can get over there but here are the numbers off the card that is installed. Does this help any?

How do I find out the version of the software?

faq799-2156 tells how to find the version.

on a 73XX phone dial feature * * 2 6 6 3 4 4
pswd 2 6 6 3 4 4
then tap the back button 2 times
tap the show button 2 times
look up that number.

Thanks!!

It says SP: 30mmE12 NAT. Does this tell me how many lines/phones he has or do I still need to look at the trunk cards?

No, that is the software version. With a compatability chart, you could translate that number to a software version, which will determine your system capabilities.

The chart says that you have CICS 4.0 standard software with the IRAD turned off. that translates to: the software can support up to 8 Loop start/CallerID lines and 16 stations.

You still need to look at the hardware to see if it has one or two line cards, to determine if you have 4 or 8 line capacity. The software version only describes what the system is capable of, not what it has.
