Need to import from Filemaker/Preview

I am new to InDesign--from Pagemaker 6.5 in Classic. (I think this is better.)

My current task is to make a book from Filemaker data. The Preview of the chosen layout will be perfect. I've made a pdf from a file that was tagged to go to a printer driver that should produce 600 ppi, but whether I paste it in, drag it in or place it in, it looks like it was done on a 9-pin printer.

Is anyone aware of a way to do what I want to do?

I think I've figured out the answer. Just in case anyone is following this...

It's going to look awful on screen, but it prints okay. Go figure.
