Need to identify hardware

Greetings,

I am currently trying to configure two routers at either end of what Ameritech calls a "Superframe" T1. Not packet-switched. The line terminates at a box with the name Westell on it. On the front of the box is says "DS-1 Mounting". As I understand it, the Cisco WAN card has DSU/CSU built in. So what is the westell box? What is it's function? I know this is novice question, but never the less...

the westell box is called and NIU or Pakcet this is how you will connect your T1 to the router. use a straight cable . Make sure that you set up your time slots if this is not a full T1 . Good lucks .
