I just bought additional 3 (all XP Pro) computers and i've run out of ports to my router. My brother gave me his Linky BEFSR41 v.2 router and i plan to use it get addtional ports for the other computers. Question is..
1. Is it possible?
2. how do it? connect it ? what cables? what port i need to use ?
3. Do i need to reconfigure the router.

I am using cable subscription from Comcast cable fyi..

Short course:

Connect directly your computer to the new router.

Give it a static IP in the addressing scheme used by the first router; assuming 192.168.1.x is used on router #1, give it say 192.168.1.2 or another value not in use by the router already, and outside of the range used by the first router for DHCP addresses, usually 192.168.1.100 -- 192.168.1.149.

The subnet for this static IP will be 255.255.255.0, and the Gateway will be the IP of router #1, usually 192.168.1.1.

Under the routing tab select the mode of the router to be router and not the default of Gateway.

Under the DHCP tab disable DHCP.

Now connect the uplink port of router #1 to a regular ethernet port on the new router. Note: not the WAN port, and not in this case the Uplink port.

Done.

Thanks for the reply bcastner! i'll try to do that as what you've instructed...

You are very welcome.
Note: you can extend your system using an inexpensive 10/100 switch in exactly the same way, except you do not have to configure any settings.
