Need to get windows and send keys

I am really new to c and I have a task that I need to do. I need to create something in c that can grab a windows and send keys to it. I have written something in Perl but my boss wants something else. The nice thing about Perl is that I can use winspy++ to see what all the information in the window is and then tell Perl to press that button. Can some one give me a resource or sample code. Like I said, I am new with C and I am a Perl Programmer.
