I need to be able to gain access into an option 11 where there is no terminal. I am using a laptop with hyper terminal and procom but am not sure where to start.

First of all, is there a modem on the option 11? If so, is it an SEB modem? If so, you need the password to get in past the SEB modem. Hyperterminal will work okay for the switch, but you are better off with Procomm if you have to administer Meridian Mail. Under Hyperterminal, you need to create a dial-up connection. Name a connection, add the number to connect to, and dial in.

always best to connect to TTY 0
i much prefer procomm to hyper terminal
you will need to use a null modem then into your com port
run procomm
go to the bottom of the screen
select com1
select VT100
change the baud till it runs

off yer go

and if there is an SEB on port 0, then just take the 9 pin connector off the SEB and plug to your com port. Set the correct baud rate 96K, 24K or 12K, 8N1 and you should be good to go.

Just unplug the line from the SEB because it should call out with an alarm to whomever monitors the site.

If there is no SEB, just use port 0 and get a 25 pin to 9 pin modem cable and connect. You might need a gender changer and/or null modem for this to work.

Important, since you can only upgrade the 11C via port 0.

Your also should be able to identify the baud rate of SDI port 0 by the dip switch setting on the front of the SSC card.

there is no modem, i am trying to connect directly to the system through a db9 but cannot get a response.

if your on cable 1 you'll need a null.. try the other plugs, there are 3 or 4 plugs connected to the sdi port from one plug. the lowest number tail is controled by the dip switch on the face of the ssc card.. if your using comm one one your lap top, the do comm 1, (switch speed) 8 none and one..emualation vt 320... to test the comm port, put a null modem on it (db 19) then short pins 2 to 3.. anything you type will echo to the screen... usually other tty's are programed on the other ports.. the speed is soft but most (not all) are 8 none and 1 at 9600.. in procomm click and tool bar, the right tool bar will give you a bar across the bottom of the screen that lets you click and chose different speeds and comm's etc.. you don't need a directory to connect local

Dont try to connect to the DB 9 on the pbx without the 3 prong (finger) cable labeled with port 0 1 or 2. Put a null modem cable on one of the db25 ports. look at the switch setting on the NTDK20 cpu card. If it is 9600, set procomm to 9600 none 8 and 1 (or whatever the switch is set at). If you want to change it to a speed you prefer go ahead as it does not matter what you set it at and no reboot or anything else is required if you change the switch setting. It wont work if you try putting the laptop directly to the DB9 on the bottom of the cabinet. The 9 pins have trans and rec and ground for 3 different com ports and dont pin out as a normal db9 would.

Good luck
