Someone know how to find an IP address using only the hostname and domain of the network I'm on?

Please help

how about "ping hostname"?
or ping -a hostname if you know the IP but not the name ... I don't really understand what you're trying to do???

as the previous poster pointed out, you can use ping

the local computer will resolve the name using the local dns server. with that said, you could also use 'nslookup', 'dig', and other commands that can query the DNS server directly
