Hey all,

I'm trying to export a large Access query (over 447,000 records) so I can burn it onto a CD and deliver it to another agency. I split the query into smaller pieces so I could export them as Excel spreadsheets and as I finished I saw that the Access Date/Time field turns into an Excel Date field--it strips off the times. I tried Exporting it to a .dbf file but I get an error, "Cannot define field more than once." I don't see any dupe fields so I'm not sure what that problem is. I tried .csv and that doesn't work either.

I need to have this finished by Tuesday and I'm running out of options. Oh, and I'm pulling the query out of my SQL database. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe B

Are you sure it is stripping off the times - it may be FORMATTED to show only dates but that isn't necessarily what is there - have you tried re-formatting the data to show dd/mm/yyy hh:mm:ss after you export?

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Hi, Joe B

In a .dbf file, field names can only be 10 characters.
Your fields have to be unique in the first 10 chars for it to work.

JockMullin, thanks. That does explain the "define field" problem.

xlbo, I just got in the office and I'll take a look and see about reformatting. That definitely would be the best, easiest answer.

Thanks,

Joe B

xlbo, you are the man! I just changed the format of the cells and the times ARE in there! If I get any chocolate chip cookies because of this I'll think about you while I eat one.

Thanks again,

Joe B

Joe - when access exports to excel, it commonly displays date/times in just date format - definitely worth a shot!
