Somehow during back up of hard drive I ended up with two operating systems. And during BIOS sequence I have to choose between Microsoft windows XP home edition or Microsoft windows XP home edition (2). How do I get rid of or disable the second OS. I have two hard drives.

Thank you in advance.

I have EXACTLY the same problem.

I need help too.

With the lack of replies:
Does this mean that it cannot be done?

Yes it can be done, you have to have Admin rights enabled...

on the boot drive there is a file located, named BOOT.INI this file can be edited to suit your needs, meaning you can delete the mention to the second WinXP and the number can be set to a one sec delay...

Yes it can be done but you are asking in a hardware forum about a OS related software problem.

Jim,

bcastner's given you a detailed reply in the XP forum.
If you've one installation on each drive, Ben's soultion (edit the boot.ini file to remove the reference to the second drive's installation) is sufficient. It should look like this for first drive boot only:-

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

(the timeout doesn't matter when there's only one entry - it will boot it immediately anyway).

You can do what you want with the files on the second drive (bcastner's post tells you which to remove which are part of the installation).

Hi there, as franklin97355 mentions, this is a hardware forum...

sparta - you have to have the option "Show Systemfiles" enabled under the Folder Options (Windows Explorer)... only then can you see the BOOT.INI file and all other related files meantioned by bcastner...
