Need to do other tasks while Word Mail Merge is running

I have a VB5 app which takes data entered in a GUI front end and does the word mail merge with the access database. This process takes a while (3-5 mins), while word is merging the data, I have to sit there and wait for it to complete, a total waste of time. Is there a way to have the whole process spawns off and run on its own after the user enters all the data and then hit ok to launch word mail merge?
