Can anyone recommend a cheap - if not free, software inventory program which can list the total number of copies each piece of installed software across the network.

Thanks

Jon

using WMI and vbscripts you can read the installed software from remote PC's (you will only find the softwares that are listed in add/remove programs)

another option is:
(free for personal use look at the details for corporate use)
gives VERY detailed report on a PC (hardware + software)
you will need a way to consolidate the info from the different PC's to one report (you get a 1 page HTML per PC, don't know about non-free version)

Please le me know if this has helped !!

Thanks for the info, I have ended up using the demo verison of Alchemy Network Inventory

Runs a exe during login and creates XML files which the main program reads, however it will only read the first 3 as it is a demo version so I just keep deleting the first 3 rerun the report etc etc and then compile my data from it.

Tried using kixscript to do it but could not merge all the txt files and Access would not import the data well.

It is not a perfect solution as I will no doubt miss some of the pc's etc

I'm glad you found a solution... will look into Alchemy Network Inventory myself.
