need to create simple cookie fast 2

this is the result of a calculation
document.calculateForm.total8.value = totalCost
which gets displayed in a HTML Input Box.
I need to take the 'total8' value and store it in a cookie, then retrieve it from another page. I have no idea how to do this and can't find any tutorials which are this simple.
PLEASE HELP me!!!
