Try going to Advanced TCP/IP properties for your network adapter card.
You can enable packet filetering. It is probably set for permitting all packets through.
You can block TCP and UDP ports by port number.

Yep, u could close ports as stephenson said -
or you could install a good firewall such as zone alarm, outpost, sygate,etc..The main role of a firewall is to defend against attacks by blocking unwanted or unexpected network traffic.
