Living in Denver, we can get used to the occasional blizzard. We are expecting 6-12 inches of snow. My new customer with their new IP Office needs to be able to change the greeting in the morning, remotely from home, if they decided to close due to weather. Recommendations? If she could just dial into the greeting, press a prompt and re-record, that would be great. I know I can setup a module for inclement weather, but trying to keep it simple for them.

All you would need to do is assign a DID to a VMPro module which points to a "setweather" variable. In the test conditions create a weather test condition in which it tests opened or closed. Set up a test condition in the routing. If true send to inclement weather greeting, if false send to normal route. The set weather variable can be changed by either pressing 1 or 2 (usually) or whatever you would like to set it for. This way the customer can call in from any phone and change the variable. Good luck!

instead of a DID, could I access this from the main greeting by dialing say a certain extension number which points to the "setweather"?

id keep it simple and set up a DDI/DID pointing at recordings menu with edit playlist actions so you can change any of your greetings from anywhere in the world!

Yes! Put in a hidden option in the main AutoAttendant, say **732, point it to another menuAdmin module (PIN PROTECT THIS!) where they can change it. You could also put it in the users own Collect startpoint so when they go to get their messages, they could have an option to set the office closed or not, setup a recording, or get voice messages. Taught this _just_today_ in my course...

care to send me the crib notes from class? this sounds like something I will need to know!

Just do this and you learned someting :)

MAke a variable with "BadWeather"
Make a module with a check variable for checking bad weather true and one with false
Then make a menu with a set variable for true and one for false.
Then make a module with those two check variables again and assign a "module return" action to the "true" result.
Rename that action to BadWeather or something you like.
Do the same for the false variable.
Then you will have one "false" result left and give that the name "nothing" or something similar.

Then go to your main module and drag the last made module in to it.
This will give you 3 options and then you just need to connect those results to where you need them.

The result "nothing" can have the normal call flow.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

HSM, you wont make any friends with the staff there.

additional to TLpeters suggestion
if you add an edit play list option into the set condition menu you can also re-record the greeting & make this a generic emergency option rather than just bad weather.

I tend to combine the check for working hours, Holidays & emergency into one module with 4 exit points as described by tlpere, it makes the display much cleaner & easier to read.

I got a brief repreive due to the fact that the weatherman was a bit off on the snow forecast, so they didn't close afterall.

However, this makes me realize I need a lot more experience and training of VM Pro if I am going to use its full potential. I was thinking of taking the advanced IPO class which covers applications, through Catalyst our distributor. However, I was hoping for a bit of feedback from experienced members of the board here as far as training. We aren't required to have the advanced class, so I am open to other forms of training that might be better.

have you worked through Avaya's VMPro Examples document from the Docs CD?

if not that is a very good starting place.

I would say the advanced class (484) is a good starting point, but nothing will equate to actually beating you way through problems.

IPGuru. Is that the Avaya IP Office User/Admin set you are talking about?

No, document CD which can be downloaded separately.
But you can also find them on the knowledgebase.

the advanced class covers contact store and vb scripting sort of stuff. it doesnt really go into the VMPro modules at any depth!

Like Greybeard said the best way to learn VMPro is to work it out for real.

Give yourself fictitious scenarios in you lab and work through them

I agree with IPGuru, The VMPro examples document is actually a very good document for getting started. It's straight forward and has examples you would really use or could apply to your own situations.

Daveinwearside, not sure which class you took but the 484 advanced app course does cover vmpro modules, and NOT vbscript. We actually spend two days covering custom modules, tts, and other things. There's also onex, ccr, meshed networking, backup and distributed voicemail. Maybe you just had a bad instructor?

Download this
And look at the checkConditions and menuRecordings. The "Emergency Closure" will do what you want.
