I'm trying to troubleshhot a hardware error error on a Solaris 8 system. As part of that process I would like to be able to associate a specific Hard drive block to the file written to it. (Mainly to determine if there has been any damage done)
Not sure what info to give:
HD - internal SCSI

The error:
Mar 1 01:17:15 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.warning] WARNING: /pci@1f,0/pci@1/scsi@1/sd@4,0 (sd4):
Mar 1 01:17:15 server Error for Command: read(10) Error Level: Retryable
Mar 1 01:17:15 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Requested Block: 51104 Error Block: 52
166
Mar 1 01:17:15 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Vendor: COMPAQ Serial Number:
JDF57091
Mar 1 01:17:15 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] Sense Key: Media Error
Mar 1 01:17:15 server scsi: [ID 107833 kern.notice] ASC: 0x14 (<vendor unique code 0x14>), ASCQ: 0x1, FRU: 0x1
M

The error occurs daily. It looks like a drive getting ready to die. But it would be nice to see a second confirmation.

I have unmounted and run fsck and found nothing. Does this ring any bells with anyone?

TCTUtils (based on TCT (The Coroner's Toolkit - available
at contains a number of tools
that should give you the information you want.

TCT has been tested on Solaris 8.
