My report includes the following type of data:

Cat Name Age Dept

1001 Bob Smith 34 Sales
1001 Joe Willis 37 Marketing
1002 Jim Mathis 43 Legal
1002 Ted Parks 38 Accounting

I want to be able to have a line break with ONLY the CAT# showing on that line... no data. Like this:

Name Age Dept
1001
Bob Smith 34 Sales
Joe Willis 37 Marketing
1002
Jim Mathis 43 Legal
Ted Parks 38 Accounting

How can this be done?

In design view, click on View, then Sorting and Grouping. Under Field/Expression, select the Cat# field and set Group Header to Yes.

Move your Cat# field from the detail section to the "Cat# header" section, and you should be all set.....

Use sorting and grouping from the view menu. Also, many of the built-in report wizards will do a report like this for you. Just playing with those should give you some basic examples.

Cosmo,

When I do as you stated I get this...

Name Age Dept
1001
Bob Smith 34 Sales
1001
Joe Willis 37 Marketing
1002
Jim Mathis 43 Legal
1002
Ted Parks 38 Accounting

Am I missing something?

Sorry... I found out what I did wrong! Thanks for the help... I selected Cat Name instead of Cat # in the Sorting/Grouping menu.
