Hi there,

I'm a newbie in graphics software, but have recently been faced with the challange of transforming maps from paper into digital format. The potential employer suggested vector-based graphics, specifically Corel Draw 8. The process was supposed to go like this: scan parts of the map, turn them into bitmaps, then draw *over* the contour using vector-based graphics; finally, combine them to get a large map. Is this possible, cosidering I will most certainly have to deal with multiple layers? How long would such an operation take? Please post a more detailed description of the process if possible.

Thanks in advance.

There is an autotrace function in CorelDraw that can speed up the process of vectorizing your maps, or you could use Adobe Streamline (works better) to assist with that process and then import into CorelDraw. CorelDraw also has a library of vectored maps that you could utilize. I know I have used them alot for my projects.

You've been of great help. Thanks a lot.
