Need some thoughts on this one !! ... Decided to change a Soltek 65me mainboard running a Celeron 700 because the keyboard was not being recognised and appeared to be a controller ic failure. Apart from the keyboard everything else was fine. Replaced with an Aopen mx36xle ..reformatted HDD & reloaded Me Operating System. However, now freezes at the final stage of loading Me .. at the point where it is setting up system configuration and updating component settings.Have changed memory, HDD, power pack .. removed all PCI cards but keeps freezing at the same spot. So does this seem like a faulty new motherboard ??

Have you tried starting it in "Safe Mode". See if you can and if so then do a complete shutdown and try rebooting again. We are always looking for new members at our computer forums: Please come join our community too.

Hello MikeAuds,
Have you tried it with a different keyboard?

The locking up occurs before windows has completed its installation .. you can actually use F8 and it will try and get into safe mode but hangs up before getting there.
keyboard change has no effect

Thanks for your replies

change the case?
Don't think you're likely to resolve your problem here - unfortunately. I'd just keep trying different things (i know you already have...)
btw - have you tried installing another o/s - eg 98 or 2k or xp (just something else to eliminate)

Are the bios settings at default & is any bios virus checking turned off?

Consider the hard HD going bad. I recently had this problem even though the HD checked good using the mfg diagnostics. Replaced HD, problem solved>

Thanks wunkun .. I replaced the Hard Drive and the problem remained. I fixed the problem by replacing the motherboard so i guess the fault was on there ..somewhere!!
Thanks for everyones input
