We just bought the following

HDS NSC55
TIER 1 (4TB)

AMS500
TIER 2 (4TB)
TIER 3 (7.5TB)

The SAN is connecting to an IBM blade center with 8/HS21 blades w/ FC switching (SW4100 switches)

4 blades (win2k3 - no virtualization)
4 blades (ESX vmware)

The virtual blades will be booting off the SAN

Tier 1 is going to be used for databases and BFS
Tier 2 is going to be used for our filesystem (data and catalogues)
Tier 3 is going to be the backup and archive data from our other branches.

We currently have 5TB of total data for all our branches

I'm looking into what RAID and LUN configuration would best suit this setup.

Tier 1 -> Using for OS (BFS) and databases
Tier 2 -> Data/catalogue file storage
Tier 3 -> Replication of backup data and archive data from other branch sites

Any suggestions?

I was thinking the following config

Tier 1 -> RAID 1+0 (NTFS and VMFS) 16GB LUNS
Tier 2 -> RAID 5 for data (NTFS and VMFS) and 200GB LUNS
Tier 3 -> RAID 5 (NTFS) and 200GB LUNS

And using Lun masking to separate the VMFS and NTFS partitions.
