Need some help with backing up data

i need to make a back up of my system. i need to make a tape backup with 8 mm tape with a DENSITY of 39 for a vender. well my tape drive has a density of 40. i have an old tape drive on my old rs6000 that has the right density both systems have an lto attached to them for our new style of backup (more space and faster) what would be the best why to get this setup to work someone said do a nsf mount but i have not had any luck doing this in the past any help would be great
