Need some help please.

I'm a telcom guy who has been thrown into project management with an IT group. I'm new to project managment. My new boss expects me have every system that we look at diesected in every way. I need to have all the questions answed before they are answerd.

Harwarwe- Standards, recovery, Backups

Software- Standars, Recovery, Data Base, Backup, Support, PM, check disk, Protocols Remote access, connectivity.
User end

Does anyone have any advise, resources or inforamtion that can help me develop an approach or foramt with this kind of precise and detail?

And WOW, the ITIL books don't come cheap, do they!

While it's not entirely clear from your post, I'd tend to agree w/ BNPMike, you're not talking PM, you're talking service mgmt. But your group may call it a project, so who cares! BTW, "project" by definition has a definite beginning and a definite end.

There's plenty of software packages that track IT assets, which seems to be what you are doing. None of my networks have ever been big enough to justify such a custom package. I've made do with Access and Excel for several networks of 25 users and smaller.

Suggest you spend time on the internet, with another company pro doing the same things, or at your local library. Define your questions and needs better, or your headed for a big problem.
