A customer has a Merlin Magix 4.0 V7.0 CKE5 and the're experiencing a few problems...internal modem within the proc. is not working right and ports on 2 different T/R cards are frying after several days, dropping like flies one by one. I'm telling them the best option is to get a brand new system, but they complain their system is only "several years old". Then i told them the next best option is to replace their Proc. card..and then the last is to replace the faulty T/R cards. Cost doesn't seem to be too much of an issue, but a new system is quite a difference compared to replacement cards...anyone have any suggestions??

what is connected to the s/l cards????...With regards to the imternal modem on the processor not working right....
does it not answer...does it not connect...can you be alttle more specific...could be a software glitch...a flash
upgrade to 4.71 might fix your problem. What brand new system did you have in mind????

Sorry, as far as WinSPM goes, as soon as i dial in it gets locked up every time. Sometimes i could get as far as getting the prompt for the password into the switch. And once it gets locked up i have to force shutdown of SPM to even try again. Its fustrating! I also have error messages once i connect directly into the admin port, like "failed to read data!" I really didn't have a particular system in mind...something new and better..and of course thats STILL in production :)

Your description of the SPM connection sounds more like a
handshake problem w/ your PC modem...have you used this PC or laptop on another Legend switch with success???? The Merlin Magix is as good a pbx as your going to get.!!!!!
New and Still in production is not always better....

Yes, i could get into other Magix/Legend systems no problem. The same modem problem happens to another technician with a different laptop, his SPM freezes as well when dialing into this customer...

There are many things to consider between different systems...i just personally would like customers to upgrade to the latest cutting edge technology...because well..thats where its heading, u know what i mean?

Sounds like the processor modem could be "bad". You should try resetting it first though - out of the maintenance menu. You can also connect directly through the admin port - if you are on site - and skip the modem.

As for the T/R cards - what model# are they? There is one particular Magix module (617F34) with the older number stamped on the motherboard (I believe it starts with a 7) - that has known issues. Often, just doing a reset and then a restore in maintenance on the slot will fix the "bad" ports - at least for a while.

If you really want a more stable/reliable 016 module - go get an old Legend 016 T/R - take it out of its Legend case and stick it in the Magix. I have almost NEVER had a problem with the Legend version. I have often had problems with the magix versions (I guess they are just too delicate). You can always take the grey front faceplate off the defective Magix 016- and reinstall it on the Legend module (to make it look pretty and keep it from falling out) - you just can't use the middle mounting screw - only the two end screws.

Also - is the system properly grounded. Is there surge protection installed?
