Need report for outgoing SMTP message

I am looking for a way to get a report that shows a count of SMTP outgoing messages. Messages sent from my domain TO the internet.

The only SMTP reports that I can see in the Watchguard Report manager are for inbound emails.

We currently have an inbound SMTP proxy rule and an outbound SMTP proxy filter.

I was thinking of adding a outbound SMTP proxy rule. My thoughts are that this would then give me access to an outbound report that I am looking for.

Is this the best way to proceed? Any caveats?

We are currently running Watchguard System Manager 10.2 with similar fireware f/w on a x750 box.
