I need to make a remote connection with my RS/6000 via a dialin modem. I want to use Hyperterminal and can not seem to get any response from the Unix box. [sig][/sig]

Hi
The tty on which your modem is conected should be in Available state.
Also this tty should be "login enable".........if you are dialing into the system;
However if you are dialing out from the system then tty should be "login disable"
Also check that your modem is responding by using cu program(and AT command).
Hope it will work.

Is your modem answering the call? Can you hear the connection tones?

If so... then use [tt]smit mktty[/tt] to add a new terminal with DUMB type for your serial modem... set the LOGIN attribute to enable and try again.

Try the [tt]penable ttyN[/tt], may be your port is manually disabled...

I hope it works... [sig][/sig]
