Can anyone recommend magazines or books for someone very new to AS/400 in an IT Director position? Thanks! Susan M. Wagner

One book that's helped me a lot is "The AS/400 Owner's Manual" by Mike Dawson.

I have an older version but so far little things that you can't just pick up yourself are shown in detail. Since I have no formal training on AS/400 system commands and methods this is a very good book for a newbie.

I think newer versions of the book are available through Midrange Computing at
Plus reading on specific topics (like system backups) a good source are the IBM manuals that should come with each release of your software. There's a 3" thick manual called "OS/400 Backup and Recovery VxRx" (depending on your version).

Hope that helps. J.R. Juiliano
