I need some inputs on what you Nortel Guru's in here think about setting up ASR auto set relocation. I myself don't know too much about Nortel systems but do know about Definity's. I know that the same rules apply to no matter what type of system you have also. So that is why I want your input on as to what do you think about setting it up ASR on a Nortel system. How easily can your software get corrupted by using this feature? If it gets corrupted easily why did they even add this feature in the first place? My release is 25.3 supposely there should of been fixes for some of the causes correct? Not to sure so that is why I am asking. But give me some ideas as to what you think should I or should I not. I feel that If I use it correctly I should not get any software corruption. I have used this feature on a Definity for over 4 years and had no software corruptions or problems as far as ASR goes. But then again it may be different in a Nortel system. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks,

Some of the old school techs will say don't use it. However, there are a lot of users that use it without problems. The release your on also allows you to make changes and out problem asr attempts.

The key is
1. don't allow users to do (keep it under control)
2. don't asr ACD sets
3. if you get a set that does not come back - try disabling/enabling card first.
4. ASR uses serial number of phone set - if you need to replace a set do seperatly (before or after) ASR.

So does #4 means that if I have ASR enable already that I should take the phone offline using ASR first then replace the old phone with a new phone and put it back online using ASR so that the serial numbers won't conflict. For if you just replace it with another one without removing the old phone offline it will see the old phones serial number instead of the new phones serial right?

No - do the ASR move with the same set. Then if you want the user to have a different set - just replace (as long as its a like set).

these are the rules as I know them

1. only let experienced people use it
2. can end up with sets stuck in s/w
3. never use on system sets, especially acd sets.
4. wouldn't touch it with a barge pole myself - you ask the question, why did nortel make a dodgey feature - so why did mirosoft make win 9x

ditto....we did it for about 20 users, and then spent chrismas eve and christmas rebuilding a corrupt database.

Not widely used, because it's not perfect.

I have used the TTY option in the Definity and that works great....go to INNMUG and get the techs to work on this.

It's in vegas this year.

DON'T DO IT!!! SET RELOCATION CAUSES A CORRUPTED PBX!!!!
